# Search Engine Optimization

> Technical foundations, content that earns the click, and rankings built to survive an algorithm update.

Search is the traffic you do not rent. Paid media stops the day the budget stops; a page that earns its position keeps working, which is also why it takes longer to build. The work is unglamorous and cumulative: fix what is broken, publish what deserves to rank, and earn the references that make a search engine trust the site.

## What the work involves

- **Technical foundations.** Crawling, indexing, site structure, speed and the errors that quietly hold a site back. This comes first because content cannot rank on pages a search engine struggles to read.
- **On-page optimisation.** Titles, headings, internal linking and the structure of each page, so the subject of a page is unambiguous to a reader and to a crawler.
- **Content that earns the click.** Research into what people actually search for, then pages written to answer it properly. Ranking is the halfway point; the click and what happens after it are the job.
- **Off-page and authority.** Earning references from places that already have standing in your field. Slower than buying links and the only version that survives an algorithm update.
- **Measurement.** Rankings, traffic and what that traffic did once it arrived, reported monthly. Position on its own is not a result.
